As The Wild Center has temporarily suspended public operations in order to help curb the spread of COVID-19, the natural history museum for the Adirondacks is focusing on a digital experience over the coming weeks.
The digital offerings include virtual visits, which you can go on by clicking here, including seeing exhibits that are generally not open to the public. In-depth video content from the Wild Center Naturalists and the Animal Care Team will also be available for viewing.
During Monday through Friday, at 12pm The Wild Center hosts “Lunchtime Live” on Facebook Live and on their website. You can watch content created by their educators and hear stories about animal encounters, explore behind-the-scenes, and learn how to do some activities and projects in order to keep you occupied. They are also taking requests through Facebook direct messaging or twitter incase you have something specific you want to see.
They also feature “Drop in Digital Learning” on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11:00am. Every week is a free, live educational distance learning program where teachers and students can learn about our local regional animals, engineering challenges and Earth science by visiting the Digital Learning Website, or emailing: digitallearning@wildcenter.org.
A Youth Climate Virtual Event will be happening as well on April 7 from 2-3pm, and on April 9 from 7-8pm. It will be a virtual celebration of the Youth Climate Summit network, and the unveiling of their new website and toolkit. You will be able to get an inside look at the essential summit elements, hear from the organizers and ask questions of experienced hosts in order to help learn how to potentially host your own successful summit. You can register for the event by clicking here.
Their large trail network at the Wild Center’s Tupper Lake campus will remain open to the public, granted that visitors follow the 6-feet of space social distancing rule while hiking. The animals will continue to be cared for during the closure and essential staff will still report for work to provide for them.
