Broadway may be closed, but one its biggest forces believes it is imperative that “The Shows Must Go On!”
Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber will stream a production of one of his smash musicals for free on YouTube each weekend during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The series begins today with his 2000 adaptation of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” starring Donny Osmond, Joan Collins and Richard Attenborough. It will be available online for 48 hours.
A 2012 production of “Jesus Christ Superstar” will follow next weekend with Tim Minchin, Mel C. and Chris Moyles.
Webber outlined plans in a video he posted to the channel, youtube.com/theshowsmustgoon
While free, the YouTube channel asks viewers to donate to a variety of charities, including Acting for Others, Broadway Cares and Actors Benevolent Fund.
