Behavioral Health Services North, Inc., a progressive not-for-profit organization founded in 1874, is committed to strengthening individuals, families, and community life by delivering a behavioral health care and human service system that provides an integrated continuum of essential, responsive, and cost-effective services.
OUR HISTORY
Originally established in 1874, by Margaret Platt, as a home caring for orphans and abandoned children in our community, the home later evolved into the Northern New York Center and grew over its first 125 years in response to the needs of our region. Since that time, our organization has merged into the agency we are today, Behavioral Health Services North, Inc. and we continue to grow and serve individuals in the North Country.
TODAY
Today, BHSN still reflects on its principles that were founded over 140 years ago. Still bringing treatment, rehabilitation and support to families in the North Country. BHSN has emerged as a leader in behavioral health services in the northernmost area of New York State. Located along the shores of Lake Champlain, BHSN has over 20 sites which comprise its 20+ programs.
IN THE COMMUNITY
Our talented team takes every opportunity to give back to our surrounding communities through outreach, educational programs and clinic locations that provide care to those in need. We’re committed to expanding the reach of our caregivers to provide the most people with the best care.
BHSN is a founding member of the Northwinds Integrated Health Network IPA, Inc (NWIHN). NWIHN is an independent practice organization comprised of mental health, substance abuse and social determinants of health providers with a shared commitment to improving the health and lives of our communities. Our vision is to align and integrate services across the North Country to assure the highest quality cost-effective care.
